BRIGGS & STRATTON

Customer Success Story

Relocating the Factory

Briggs & Stratton Corporation of Menomee Falls, Wis, a leading manufacturer of small engines, needed to cost-effectively relocate its current 316,000 square foot parts distibution facility to a smaller 298,000 square foot building within six months.

Plan of Action

Due to budget restrictions, Axiom recommended that Briggs & Stratton utilize existing racking and purchase enough new, compatible racking to make the initial move, including 220 pallet rack uprights at 23’ h x 48” d, and 8,000 pieces of wire decking for the warehouse and mezzanine levels. The new racking was installed as a single row against the wall and two rows back-to-back creating 350 bays. Combined with existing racking, the new facility held a total of 1,850 bays. All new and existing racking was installed with a ¼ inch tolerance to accommodate a 70” narrow aisle, wire guarding picking vehicle. After the initial install of new racking at the smaller warehouse, the first round of product from the old facility was transferred and the remaining empty rack was disassembled, packaged, relocated, and reassembled in the new facility. This systematic transfer of product and racking continued for six months until relocation was complete. By using a combination of old and new racking and systematically moving materials to the new facility, Axiom was able to keep operations moving while maximizing space and accommodating budget.
